Currently Friends-R-4 is attempting to fund the purchase of the following medical equipment:
Specialised Prostate Cancer Ultrasound Machine
Monash Medical Centre (Clayton VIC) - cost $35,000
Background
Friends-R-4 is excited to help the Monash Medical Centre (Department of Urology) raise money towards an urgently needed specialised ultrasound machine that can help to detect prostate cancer.
This state-of-the-art ultrasound machine can be used to visualise the prostate and helps to direct a biopsy instrument which takes tiny samples of the prostate.
This will allow the urological surgeons to target the areas of the prostate that may contain cancer.
"This ultrasound machine is essential to help us to biopsy the prostate and detect prostate cancer," said Dr. Darren Katz, a Urology Fellow at the Monash Medical Centre.
"If we can detect prostate cancer early enough, then the patient will have more options for treatment," he said.
This instument costs $35,000 to be provided by Friends-R-4.
