Parkin gets behind prostate cancer awareness push
28 September 2010

*** LISTEN TO DAVID PARKIN'S COMMUNITY SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT HERE ***David Parkin

Former AFL Coach David Parkin has put his voice behind the Richard Pratt Fellowships in Prostate Cancer, in an effort to increase awareness of the disease.

Parkin, an ambassador and Patron of the Prostate Brotherhood early detection and awareness project, and who is in remission from prostate cancer, generously donated his time to produce the community service radio announcement that will be hear around many Australian radio networks in the near future.

Parkin is pictured here with Friends-R-4 Chairman Dr. Ronnie Goldberg OAM when the advertisement was recorded.

The news follows the recent announcement that the Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser, AC, accepted an invitation to become the Patron in Chief of the Fellowships, while Professor Jeffrey Rosenfeld was also been named as a Patron.

The Richard Pratt Fellowship in Prostate Cancer will be represented by an amount of $100,000 being awarded annually in perpetuity, to fund a research fellowship involving translational research into prostate cancer, as well as an awareness campaign to help early detection.

Each year the Pratt Foundation will advertise the availability of a Richard Pratt Fellowship in Prostate Cancer and assemble a selection panel to determine the successful applicant.

Friends-R-4 is aiming to raise funds for the Richard Pratt Fellowships in Prostate Cancer, and donations can be made here.
